Donald R. Pickford, 90, of Decatur, passed away on September 12, 2018 at his residence.

He was born on Tuesday, August 28, 1928 in Decatur, the son of the late Fred Pickford and the late Lavina (Beer) Pickford. Donald was united in marriage to Shirley Butler on March 20, 1954 they were married for 64 years before Donald’s passing.

He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was an MP serving in Alaska.

He retired from Ryder Truck Rental. After retirement he drove cars for area car dealers.

He loved Indian artifacts, go cart racing, any kind of car racing, and he loved riding motorcycles.

He was a lifelong member of Zion United Church of Christ in Decatur, where he served as a trustee, and sang in the church choir. He was a member of the American Legion Post #43, and a Volunteer Fireman for the Decatur Fire Department from 1974 to 1993.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Pickford of Decatur; three daughters, Tonja (Douglas) Anweiler, Lequetta Hamrick, Joletta "Jody" (Jim) Jones all of Decatur; nine grandchildren, Jessica (Andy) Lee, Donald (Jackie) Myers, Lindsey (Nick) Irwin, Casey Hamrick, Orey Hamrick, Annie Pickford, Haylee (Caleb) Holman, Kermit Buckingham, Sam Buckingham; ten great-grandchildren, Audrey and Justin Lee, Logan Myers, Addilyn and Molly Irwin, Taylor Pickford, Braiden and Aubree Smith, Titus and Liam Holman.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Fred Pickford Jr.; two sisters, Bernice Barte and Mary Harshman; half-brother, Steve Pickford and great-grandson, Jaden Myers.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 17, 2018 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home - Decatur with Pastor Randy Rossman officiating. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur and one hour prior to services Monday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur .
