Vernelle H. Yoder, 94, of Berne, Indiana passed away early Wednesday morning, September 26, 2018, at Swiss Village in Berne.
She was born on July 26, 1924 in Adams County, Indiana to Raymond & Ida (Habegger) Yoder.She was a member of First Mennonite Church in Berne.
Vernelle was a graduate of Hartford High School & received her bachelor's degree in education from Fort Wayne Bible Institute. She served as a missionary in Columbia, South America for over 44 years. During that time, she was a teacher and director of three Mennonite schools under the Mennonite General Conference. After she returned home from the mission field, Vernelle had a heart for helping people in need.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Barbara Yoder of Berne and her nieces & nephews, Marilyn Averhart, Ray Yoder, Robert Yoder, Beverly Piper, Keith Yoder, Kevin Yoder, & Kyle Yoder.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Raymond, Jr. in infancy, John, LeRoy, Jerry, & Harry Yoder; sisters, Ilva & Evanna Yoder; niece, Linda Carpenter; and foster brother, Elwood David.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 1, 2018 at Swiss Village Chapel in Berne with Pastor Jeff Linthicum & Pastor Jerry Flueckiger officiating. Burial will follow at MRE Cemetery.
Family & friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday prior to the funeral service at Swiss Village.
Preferred memorials are to Southern Methodist Foreign Missions (for nephew Ray & Paula Yoder).
