LeRoy M. Bohnke , 73, of Decatur, IN, passed away Monday, October 8, 2018 at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur following an extended illness.
He was born on Saturday, August 25, 1945 in Decatur the son of the late Christ Bohnke and the late Louise (Bleeke) Bohnke. He married Deloris Frank on October 17, 1970 at Mt. Hope Church of the Nazarene in Berne and she survives.
LeRoy served his country during peacetime in the United States Army Reserves.
He was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church - Decatur where he had held many offices over the years.
LeRoy was a lifelong farmer in Union Township. In addition, he retired from BAE Systems (formerly GE Aircraft) in Ft. Wayne in 2005 after 36 years of service.
Farming was in LeRoy’s blood. Throughout his life the farm was his focus. In addition to traveling, he was also a lifelong IU Fan and enjoyed watching and attending IU basketball games. He tinkered and fixed many things around the house…he was always looking for something to do to help others. He loved his family and friends and the time spent with them was priceless.
Survivors include his wife Deloris; son, Chad (Nickole) Bohnke of Fort Wayne; daughter, Janelle (Daniel) Staub of Decatur, four sisters Marilyn (Doyle) Scott of Hoagland, Darlene (Walter) Leuenberger Jr. of Fremont, Leona (Paul) Busse Jr. of Decatur and Dorothy (Wayne) Kirchner of Decatur; and three grandchildren, Alexus Bohnke, Lily-Anne Bohnke and Maddux Bohnke.
LeRoy was preceded in death by a son, Aaron Lee Bohnke and a daughter Shelly Annette Bohnke; two brothers, Franklin Bohnke and Allen Bohnke and a sister Lorene Reinking.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Decatur with one hour visitation prior to services. Pastor David Koeneman to officiate. Interment will follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
Friends will be received Wednesday, October 10 from 4-8 p.m. at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, Indiana.
