Leroy A. Boerger, 73, Decatur, went home to his Lord and savior on Tuesday, Oct 23, 2018, at Adams Memorial Hospital following a prolonged illness. He was born on December 20, 1944 the son of the late William and Alma (Fuelling) Boerger. He was united in marriage to Pam Cary, his loving companion for 20+ years, on June 16, 2018, at a family celebration wedding in Pigeon Forge, TN and she survives.
Leroy served his country in the United States Army Reserves where he was honorably discharged. He was a lifelong member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Decatur where he served in many capacities. He was also a lifelong farmer in Adams County and in addition, he retired in 2014 from Dolco Industries in Decatur following 29 years of service.
Farming was Leroy's lifelong love. Each new season brought new anticipation and excitement in his life. His other source of great pride was his family, Lisa (Angel) Maldonado, Prior Lake, MN, and Mark (Marilee) Boerger, Ft. Lauderdale, FL. His family grew in June with the addition of two-step children, Michele (Mark) Davis, Avon, IN, and Brent Strickler, Danville, IN. Leroy was also proud of his 8 grandchildren, AJ Maldonado, Noah Maldonado, Ben Maldonado, Isabella Maldonado, Riley Boerger, Kyle Boerger, Jake Davis, and Drew Davis. He enjoyed hearing about all of their many accomplishments and sporting events or attending their events when able. He is also survived by a brother, James (Edna) Boerger, Indianapolis, and a sister, Cynthia Huheey, McLean, VA.
Leroy loved all sports, and was an avid Purdue Boilermaker fan and also playing cards with anyone. Neighborhood gatherings were always spent playing cards with his friends and neighbors.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Oct 27, 2018, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Decatur, IN with Pastor Leonard Tanksley officiating. Interment will follow in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery. Friends and family will be received from 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the services Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, Leroy’s family would ask that preferred memorials be given to Adams County Community Foundation Angel Fund or St. Peter Lutheran Church.
