Ronald L. Ballard , 88, of Decatur, passed away Friday, October 26, 2018 at Signature
Healthcare in Bluffton, Indiana.
He was born on Monday, July 28, 1930 in Adams County the son of the late Raymond F. Ballard and the late Audrey O. (Hill) Ballard. Ron was united in marriage to Lois M. Moyer on March 24, 1951 and she survives. They were married 67 years before his passing.
He served his Country in the United States Navy following WWII.
Ron retired from Decatur Wire Die in 1994 he also worked as a custodian with North Adams Community Schools and was previously employed at Fort Wayne Wire & Die with 15 years of service.
He was a standout basketball player in high school for the Decatur Yellow Jackets, and was affectionately known as "Lefty" or "Hooker", in the local bowling community. Ron was an avid IU basketball fan. He loved his family very much and they loved him!
Ron was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Decatur and served in several offices including Deacon and Trustee. He was a 1948 Graduate of Decatur High School.
Survivors include his loving wife, Lois M. Ballard of Decatur; daughter, Pamela (Dwight) Haines of Decatur; son, Ronald (Susie) Ballard of Decatur; three brothers, Roger (Sharon) Ballard, Harold Ballard and Gregory (Mary Alice) Ballard all of Decatur; four grandchildren, Grace (Steven) Phan, Dr. Tiffany (Dr. Rajesh Rao) Ballard, Kimberly Sue (David) Fosnaugh, Mindi Marie (Christopher) Matthews; eight great grandchildren, Gabrielle Nicole Phan & Vivienne Rose Phan, Lakshmi Grace Rao, and baby Rao due in February, Michelle Marie Fosnaugh & Alex Arthur Fosnaugh, Ava Grace Marie Matthews, William Allen Matthews, and Weston Louis Matthews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Raymond D. Ballard in infancy in 1961 and a brother, Raymond “Ty” Ballard.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home with Rev. Whitney West officiating. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2-5 & 6-8 Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to services on Wednesday in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home.
Preferred memorials can be made to First Baptist Church or the A.C.C.F. Angel Fund Cancer.
