Dr. Howard M. Luginbill, age 95, followed his beloved wife, Gyneth,
into the peace and blessings of Paradise on Tuesday morning, passing away at Swiss Village in Berne, Indiana.
Married on a 10-day pass from the Army in 1945, Howard and his high school sweetheart Gyneth were happily married for 71 years, until her death in 2016. Together, they leave a legasy of laughter, service, faith, and music that will be cherished by friends and by all surviving members of their family, including four sons David(Judy)Luginbill of Des Moines, Iowa, Bob(Meg)Luginbill of Indianapolis, and Tom(Karen)Luginbill of Lake Forest, Illinois, nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Born to Wilbur and Lovina Nussbaum Luginbill on April 20, 1922, Howard graduated from Berne High School(class of '40), Manchester College(class of '44), Alpha Omega Alpha from IU Medical School(class of '50), and IU School of Psychiatry(class of '1967). He served as an army medic during and after WWII in the Philippines and
Germany and is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Helen Liechty, and brother, Jim Liechty.
In life, he gave thanks for "every blessing" because he knew that all good things--like vanilla ice cream, angel food cake, and a vacation home in northern Michigan--came from the Lord, the Maker of Heaven and Earth. Now in Heaven with his Savior, Howard sings an everlasting song of praise and thanksgiving. His mind is restored, his body is repaired, and he is reunited with "Gynie"--their voices joined once more, forever.
The Luginbills were members of the First Missionary Church of
Berne, Faith Missionary Church of Indianapolis, and Grace Church of Noblesville and it is hard to express the impression left by Howard's faithfulness and generosity. Through many generations and in missions throughout the world, Howard and Gyneth's testimonies will extend beyond days.
