On Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017 Virginia R. Mattax, 92 of Berne passed away at Swiss Village where she was a resident.She was the daughter of Elmer and Ida Kauffman Flueckiger born on August 2, 1924. She married Laurel Mattax on March 12, 1944 and lived on the Mattax Homestead all of their married life. Laurel died in 2002 and Virginia stayed on the farm until she moved to Swiss Village in 2013. She was a helper to Laurel on the farm and loved to garden. She also enjoyed crocheting, sewing for her family and church friends, quilting and reading. Virginia played the piano and organ for many years at the Springhill Church where she also taught Sunday School.
Laurel and Virginia had four daughters; Saundra(Keith)Minger of Berne Rita(John)Carroll of Decatur, Linda(Keith) Keller of Berne, Susan(Tony)Braun of Berne. Also surviving are 2 brothers, Howard(Eleanor)Flueckiger of Berne, William Flueckiger of Berne, sister, Shirley(Bill)Emshwiller of Cottonwood AZ., 13 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.
Preceding in death are her parents, husband, brother, Valier and great-granddaugher, Claire Fordham.
Funeral services are Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 10:00 am at the Swiss Village Auditorium with visitation 1 hour prior to services. Visitation also Wednesday from 2 to 8 pm at the Village. Officiating are Pastors William Hull and Joe Nass. Burial is in the Springhill Cemetery, rural Berne.
Preferred memorials are to Springhill Church &/or March of Dimes(In remembrance of great-granddaughter, Claire Fordham).
