Martha J. Sommer, 94, Berne, passed away on August 15, 2016 at Swiss Village where she was a resident. She was born to Albert and Gertrude North Zimmerman on September 1, 1921 in Adams County, In. She married Rufus P. Sommer on April 13, 1940.
Martha was a faithful member of the Cross Community Church. She was a former employee of CTS Corp for over 20 years and a Mary Kay consultant for 14 years. She and her husband enjoyed ballroom dancing and traveling. And she especially cherished the time spending with her family.
Survivors include; daughters, Brenda Sommer, Janice(Ernie)Steiner, both of Berne, daughter-in-law, Pam Sommer of Yorktown, 3 grandchildren; Julie(Jeff)Chrisman of Berne, Adam Steiner of Glasgow, Ky., Sada Sommer of Muncie, 7 great-grandchildren; Emily(Brent)Michael, Erika(Carson)Tumbleson, Elizabeth, Adam, Anna, & Audra Chrisman, Mason Michael Cline, and great-great grandchild, Silas Jeffery Michael.
Preceding in death is her husband, Rufus, son, Mike Sommer, sisters; Ruth Uptgraft, Edna Guyot, Ruby Richey, & Emma Grille, brothers; Glen Dale, Kenneth, Irvin & Orley Zimmerman, step-mother, Lillian Zimmerman and step-brother, Harold Guyot.
Funeral service on Saturday August 20, 2016 at 2 pm at the Swiss Village Chapel, Berne with visitation from 11 am to time of services. Officiating is Pastor Chris Kruchkow. Burial is in the Backesto Cemetery rural Berne.
Preferred memorials are to Cross Community Church LIFE group &/or Swiss Village Kinderhaus.
