Larry D. Liechty, 85, Berne, passed away on September 4, 2015 at his home. He was born to Elmer and Naomi Stucky Liechty on March 28, 1930 in Berne, IN. Larry married Carolyn Clauser on May 8, 1955 in South Bend, IN who survives.
He graduated from Berne High School. Larry attended Taylor University, Upland, IN where he played basketball his freshman year. He served in the U.S Air Force for two years. Upon returning he attended barber school in Indianapolis, IN. and opened Larry's Barber Shop in Berne where he barbered for 28 years . He enjoyed sports and coached Little League for a number of years and rooted for the New York Yankees. He worked at Ft. Wayne International Harvester for eight years and later at Geneva EPC. After retirement he delivered RV's for Don Ray Drive-Away in Decatur, IN. for 13 years. He and Carolyn spent 18 years in Ft Myers, Fla. in the winters. Larry was a member of the First Missionary Church where he taught Sunday School and served as an usher for many years. He was a devout Christian and had a ministry of distributing gospel tracts wherever he went. Larry loved his family and enjoyed playing sports with his children and grandchildren. He was an active tennis player until the age of 79.
Larry is survived by his wife, daughter, Dianne Powell of Ft. Wayne, sons; Robert(Sharon)Liechty of Bluffton, Craig(Cassy)Liechty of Burlington, KY., brother, Danny(Carol)Liechty of Ft.Wayne, sisters; Judy(David)Gorrell of Berne, Pat Buuck of New Haven, 8 grandchildren, grandson; Brandon, Jordon, Jonathon, Jacob, & Jace Liechty, granddaughters; Monica(Eric)Neuberger, Megan Powell, Holly(Michael)Wenger, great-grandchildren; Jeremiah Powell, Owen and Milo Neuberger, Silas and Selah Wenger.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Tom Liechty and infant daughter, Nancy Jo.
Funeral services are Friday, September 11, 2015 at 11:00 am at the First Missionary Church with visitation 1 hour prior to services. Visitation also Thursday from 2 to 8 pm at the Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home. Offiicating are Pastor Michael Wenger, Pastor Dathon Foust, and Paster Max Haines. Burial is in the MRE Cemetery, Berne.
