Paul W. Von Gunten, 96, Berne, passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Swiss Village. He was born to Leon and Millie Welty Von Gunten on June 27, 1918 in Adams County. He married Marguerite "Kitty" Kitson on September 12, 1941.
Paul was an active member of the First Mennonite Church where he served on a number of committees over the years. He worked at Dunbar Furniture and later at the Berne U.S. Post Office for 28 years. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the Army Air Corp. Interests include: traveling, playing pool, woodworking, gardening, enjoying gospel and country music. He and his wife volunteered at Camp Gilead in Polk City, Fla. for 20 years and also volunteered in Columbia S.A.. Paul loved his whole family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Survivors include: a daughter, Ruth(Arland)Reinhard of Bluffton, sons: Lee(Carla)Von Gunten of Bluffton, Ronald(Lois)Von Gunten of Verilion, OH, Stephen(Alona)Von Gunten of Toledo, OH, sister, Iola Taylor of Berne and 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way.
Preceding in death are his parents, wife, & sister, Geraldine Clair.
Funeral services are Sunday, April 12 at 2:00 pm at the Swiss Village Chapel with visitation 1 hour prior to services. Visitation also Saturday from 12 noon to 5 pm in the chapel. Officiating is Pastor Jerry A. Flueckiger and Pastor Jeff Linthicum. Burial is in the MRE Cemetery, Berne with graveside military services by the Berne Post #468.
Preferred memorials are to First Mennonite Church &/or Swiss Village Samaritan Fund.
