Lloyd Francis Lichtenberger went to be with Jesus on Monday afternoon, October 13, 2014. He was born July 31, 1924 to the late Wm. Henry and Ina Mae (Finkhousen) Lichtenberger in Van Wert County, Ohio.
He married Lorena Nussbaum on April 7, 1951 and they were married 58 years before she passed away in November of 2009. They were blessed with five children, Sandra (Craig) Mountz of Brentwood, Tennessee; Rick Lichtenberger of Decatur; Kathy Keller of Grand Rapids, Minnesota; Deb (Daniel) Abnet of Berne; and Tom (Ruth) Lichtenberger of Fort Wayne. He enjoyed his 12 grandkids, Melissa Roberson; Josh Mountz; Matt Keller; Andy Keller; Michael Keller Zachary Keller; Laura Martin; Stephanie Abnet; Michelle Abnet; Brad Abnet; Kelsey Lichtenberger; & Gracie Lichtenberger. He had 13 great-grandkids ranging from two weeks to 15 years old.
Lloyd is survived by his siblings, Fern Walker of Van Wert, Ohio; Betty Beer of Richburg, South Carolina; & Ray Lichtenberger of York, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jim Keller; two sisters, Mary Double & Kathryn Sanders; and two brothers, Lawrence & Carl Lichtenberger.
He was a WWII Army Veteran and was employed by Central Soya for 23 years. He was caretaker of Miracle Camp in Lawton, Michigan from 1966 to 1969 and was a bus driver for two of those years in Michigan. He also worked for 21 years at Gifford’s IGA in Berne, Indiana.
Lloyd loved his family, fishing, hunting, gardening, and talking to people. He enjoyed playing ping-pong, basketball, and playing Bingo & Checkers at Swiss Village. He enjoyed his home at Swiss Village since August of 2013 and with his smile, was known as the “storyteller” and “whistler”.
A funeral service for Lloyd will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2014 in the Berne Evangelical Church with Pastor Kent Fahl officiating. Interment will follow in the Berne Evangelical Cemetery with Military Graveside Honors to be conducted American Legion Post #468.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct 16 in the Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home in Berne and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
