J. Robert "Bob" Myers, 92, Berne, passed away Monday, February 3, 2014 at Swiss Village. He was born to Glen and Elta (Tinkham) Myers on December 24, 1921. He married Chloe Kauffman on September 21, 1946.
Bob was a member of the Bethel Brethren Church and served on the Deacon Board, taught Sunday School, member of the church choir, and a leader for the Youth group. He was a life long farmer and served on the Jay County REMC Board for many years. Bob served his country during WW II in the U.S. Army. Bob was an avid sports fan rooting for the Indiana Hoosiers and the Cincinnati Reds. In his youth he played for the Willshire High School basketball team winning a number of tournaments. He also enjoyed playing with the S. A. Senior Golf League at the Golf Club of the Limberlost in Geneva..
Survivors include: 3 daughters; Cheryl (Larry) Leistner of Berne, Carol (Deryll) Liechty of Berne, Myra (Mark) Moore of Linn Grove, 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Preceding in death are his parents, wife, brothers, Melvin and William Myers and sister, Frieda Yager.
Funeral services are Friday, February 7 at 10:30 am at the Bethel Brethren Church with visitation 1 hour prior to services. Visitation also Thursday from 2 to 8 pm at the Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home. Officiating is Pastor Joe Nass.
Burial is in the MRE Cemetery, with Berne Post #468 performing military rites.
Preferred memorials are to the Bethel Brethren Church.
