Rev. Harry R. Reiners, 91, Berne, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Swiss Village where he was a resident. He was born to Raymond and Audrey(Jauss) Reiners on June 18, 1922 in St. Paul, Minn. He married Elizabeth "Beth" Oesau on June 1, 1949.
Harry was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He possessed a brilliant mind and was a passionate, lifelong learner. Harry was an avid sports fan and golf, football, and basketball were his special interests. He played the guard position and was captain of the football team in college. He was voted "most handsome man on campus" while in Seminary School. He graduated from Mission House College and Seminary in Plymouth, Wisc. and was a Veteran of WW II serving in the U.
S. Army from 1943 to 1945 in the European Theater. Harry was a sergeant and enjoyed running half tracks. He considered the war "my great adventure". As a minister he served in churches in the following cities Jackson, Wisc., Eitzen, Minn., Bloomington, Minn., Poland, In., and lastly in Berne. Upon retiring from the ministry he was employed with the U.S. Postal Service in Fort Wayne, In. for 18 years. In the construction of the new Cross Church in 1963 he helped design the stained glass windows. He will be missed, but remembered fondly by many.
Survivors include; Michael Reiners of Berne, Amy West of Berne, Maria (Tony) Anderson of Berne, Dr.Andrew Reiners of Indianapolis, & 5 grandchildren: James and David West of Berne, Dylon and Alyssa Anderson of Berne, and Erika Luster of Canton, OH.
Preceding in death are his parents, his wife, and a son Paul Reiners, daughter, Ann Elizabeth Reiners, and grandson, Tyson Anderson.
Funeral services are Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the Swiss Village Chapel with visitation from 11 am to time of services at the village. Officiating is Pastor Timothy Price.
Burial is in the M.R.E. Cemetery, Berne.
Preferred memorials are the Swiss Village Samaritan Fund &/or Cross United Church of Christ.
