Maurice Edward Miller of Berne died at the age of 93 on December 18, 2013 at Swiss Village. He was born on April 10, 1920, in Adams County to Joseph Leroy and Hazel Mae Davies Miller. He married Edith Elizabeth Habegger on April 20, 1941. She preceded him in death in 2012.
He retired as an insurance agent and estate planner for Midwestern United Life Insurance Company. He was past owner of Affolder-Miller Implements, worked as a mail carrier, and farmed in Blue Creek Township. Serving on the board of the Adams County Historical Museum, he supplied many volunteer hours there. He was a life-long member of Salem Community Church (previously Salem UM), taught Sunday school for many years, and served in various leadership roles in the church.
Surviving are a daughter, Nancy (Don) Egley of Decatur. There are two granddaughters; Kami Rene Miller (Ed) Ulmer of Henniker, New Hampshire, and Mary Jo "Jody" Egley (Quinn) Hirschy of Fort Wayne, along with four great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his wife and parents, sons Roger Dean and Wayne Edward, and brother, Robert LaDoyt Miller.
Funeral services are Saturday, December 21 at 3:00 pm with visitation 1 hour prior to services at Swiss Village Chapel. Visitation also Friday, December 20 from 4 to 8 pm at the village. Officiating is Dr. James Compton.
Burial is in the Backesto (Springhill) Cemetery, rural Berne.
Preferred memorials are to the Swiss Village Samaritan Fund.
