Marie I. Rupp, 95, Berne, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Swiss Village. She was born to W. Paul Stauffer and Lillian(Amstutz)Stauffer on May 26, 1917 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She married David C. Rupp on July 10, 1947.
She was a member of the Springhill Church. Marie was a graduate of Kentucky Mountain Bible Institute and later received her Bachelor of Music degree from Cascade College in Oregon. She served as a missionary in Sierra Leone, Africa from 1945 to 1980 where she and her husband also were house parents at the Kabala Rupp Memorial School. She was also a church pianist and enjoyed writing music and crocheting
Survivors include: daughters, Nancy(Don)Sharp of Berne, Lois(Terry)Guerin of Van Buren, Sarah(Ron)Luginbill of Peru, Rebecca(Benny)Sgaggero of Mapleville, R.I., sons; David "Larry"(Jean)Rupp of Berne, Peter(Colleen)Rupp of Berne, sister, Eileen Philo of Berne, brother, Richard Stauffer of Chelmsford, Mass., 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Preceding in death is her husband, Rev. David, daughter, Mary Grace Rupp, sisters; Florence Skinner, Bonnie Stauffer, Alice Stauffer, brother, Paul L. Stauffer, and grandson Zachary Rupp.
Funeral services are Saturday, May 25 at 10:30 am at the Springhill Church, rural Berne with visitation 1 hour prior to services. Visitation also on Friday from 4 to 8 pm at the Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home. Officiating is Rev. Bill Hull.
Burial in the Backesto(Springhill) Cemetery, rural Berne.
Preferred memorials are to the Springhill Church.
