Vernon D. Liechty, 85, Berne, passed away on May 6, 2013 at his home. He was born to Paul E. and Sarah A.(Felber) Liechty on March 16, 1928. He married Ava Kraft on May 10, 1959 in Decatur, Indiana.
His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and living life on the farm. His random sense of humor could light up any room. He had a story for every occasion and loved to reminisce about old times. He had a passion for raising quality livestock especially Holstein cattle. He retired from International Harvester in Fort Wayne following 30 years of service. In addition he was a retired dairy farmer and a member of the Registered Holstein Association. He was also an avid bowler in his younger years. Vernon was an active member of the First Mennonite Church in Berne. His retirement years were spent as a dedicated Amish hauler which brought him much enjoyment.
He is survived by his daughter, Jenny(Roger)Neuenschwander of rural Berne; 3 grandchildren, Amy(Nathan)Hirschy of rural Decatur, Eric(Jen)Neuenschwander of rural Berne, Renee(Albert)Andrews of rural Monroe; 7 great-grandchildren, Corbin, Aaron, and Ben Hirschy, Callie, Mackenzie, and Caiden Neuenschwander, and Isaac Andrews. A brother, Byron(Ruth Mary)Liechty of rural Berne and a sister, Barbara Liechty of Berne.
He is preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Funeral services are Monday, May 13 at 10:30 am at the First Mennonite Church with visitation 1 hour prior to services. Visitation also Sunday from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 pm at the Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home. Officiating is Pastor Jerry A. Flueckiger.
Burial is in the MRE Cemetery, Berne. Arrangements by Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home.
