Ted W. Schwartz

May 7, 1949 - May 6, 2013

Ted W. Schwartz, 63, Berne, passed away Monday, May 6, 2013 at his home. He was born to Ernest and Ruth(Nussbaum)Schwartz on May 7, 1949 in Adams County. He married Lana Sprunger on July 10, 1971.

Ted was a member of the First Mennonite Church in Berne where he served as a youth leader, Sunday School teacher, and various other capacities. He graduated from South Adams High School in 1967 and Taylor University in 1971. During the summers of his high school and college years, Ted worked with his father in his construction business, building homes throughout the area. He received his master's degree from St. Francis College(University)in 1974. He began his teaching career in 1971 in Portland, teaching art to elementary and junior high students. He then came to South Adams in 1978. After teaching elementary and junior high art, he became head of the art department and taught high school students for many years. His career spanned 41 years, and he touched the lives of many young people, who in turn inspired him. Ted had also been co-owner of F & S Painting, and for over 30 years he painted many buildings in the area during his summers.

Ted was a man of varied interests. As an art teacher he enjoyed working with students and helping them reach their creative potential. He enjoyed coaching baseball and tennis, but especially loved coaching basketball. Deer hunting was a favorite hobby, and he enjoyed fishing as well. His faith, family, and friends were most important to him. He loved Jesus and wanted his life to have an impact for the Lord. Being with his family brought great joy, and he was so proud of his sons and their families. By his example, he showed his family and friends how to be strong and courageous while fighting cancer. He relied on the Lord and frequently said, "God is good, all the time."

Survivors include his wife, sons, Jason(Becki)Schwartz of Berne, Lendon(Tiffany)Schwartz of Yorktown, sisters; Jocelyn(James)Blum of Fort Wayne, Amy(Ken)Troutman of Syracuse, sister-in-law, Roxanne Leichty of Carrollton, VA., 5 grandchildren, Lara, Ella, Julianne Schwartz of Berne and Malia and Kiptyn Schwartz of Yorktown.
