Services for
Donald "Don" Gibson Moore, 87, Berne, Indiana will be at 10:00a.m. Monday, April 15, at the Swiss Village Auditorium in Berne with Pastor Jerry A. Flueckiger presiding. Visitation also at the auditorium on Sunday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and 1 hour prior to the services on Monday.
Don passed away Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Swiss Village in Berne, IN. He was born in Monroe, IN. on May 12, 1925, to J. Howard and Minnie A.(Gibson) Moore and graduated from Lancaster H.S. in Wells County. As a WW II Army Air Corp pilot, he flew Air Force combat missions in Korea 1951-53. Don married Lena Morand of Berne on April 20, 1947 and are the parents of 3 children.
Don worked a number of positions in business, industry, transportation, and agriculture, including with his wife, the operation of a Berne business landmark, Danny Morand's Store. Upon retrement, Don and Lena moved to Texas, returning to Berne in 2007.
Don's memberships included the First Mennonite Church, American Legion, Veteran of Foreign Wars, and Swiss Heritage Society. In 2011 he flew with other WW II vets on a regional "Honor Flight" to the WW II memorial in Washngton,D.C.
Surviving are a son, John B.(Linda)Moore of rural Portland, daughter, Genette Kay Moore of Decatur, sisters; Marjorie Wise and Norma Berkey of Goshen, IN., Betty Green of Bluffton, 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Preceding in death are his parents, wife, Lena, son, Joseph, 4 sisters, infant Arvilla, Georgia Mast, Jean Blem, Emily Russell, and 3 brothers, James, Richard, and
Forrest Moore.
Burial is in the M.R.E. Cemetery, Berne with full military rites by the Berne American Legion Post #468
