Kathleen M. Henkel, 81, Berne, passed away October 3, 2012 at Swiss Village, Berne. She was born to Ralph and Marie(Niswander) Gerig on May 2, 1931. She married Walter "Wally" Henkel on August 16, 1952.
She graduated from Auburn High School and St. Francis College in 1971. She also attended Ft.Wayne Bible College and Oberlin College. She taught elementary music in the Ft.Wayne Community Schools. Kathleen taught piano and organ privately and was an organist for the Berne First Missionary Church. She was an accompanist of the "Edelweiss Singers" men's chorus for 13 years.
Survivors include a son, Kurt(Vicki) Henkel of Fremont, OH, daughters, Elise Schrock of Decatur, and Denise(Kenneth) Nedimyer of Tavenier. Fla. Also 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Also a sister Joyce(Ed) Widmark of Lima, OH.
Preceding in death are her parents, husband and brother Darrell Gerig.
Funeral services are Tuesday, 11:00 am at the First Missionary Church, Berne with visitation 1 hour prior to services. Visitation also Monday fom 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home. Officiating is Pastor Max Haines.
Burial at the MRE Cemetery, Berne.
