Calvin E. Beitler, 86, Berne, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012 in Fort Wayne. He was born to Hugo and Gertrude(Hirschy) Beitler on March 19, 1926 in Adams County. He married Alberta (Schenkel) Beitler on September 20, 1947.
Calvin was a member of the Cross United Church of Christ where he sang in the choir and served as deacon. He retired in 1989 from Micro-Precision Corp as a machinist. Prior Cal worked at Dunbar Furniture and later for the Shell Service Station. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp and was a member of the Berne American Legion Post #468 for 67 years. Cal was a faithful member of the Berne Volunteer Fire Department for 40 years and served as assistant fire chief. He was a "Life" Boy Scout and was a member of the Adams County Civil Defense Unit during the Korean War. Special interests include: woodworking, music, gardening, & landscaping.
Survivors include: his wife, sons David (Diane) Beitler, Berne, Thomas(Cindy) Beitler, Plymouth, Wisc., and daughters, Rebecca (Joe) Liechty, Ft. Wayne, and Jill (Tony) Miller, Richmond, In. Also ten grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, a brother, Richard Beitler, Berne.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a son,
Rev. Charles "Chuck" Beitler, a grandson, Kent Beitler, sister, Geraldine Beitler and brothers, Chester, James, and Roger
Beitler.
Funeral services are Friday July 6 at 10:30 am at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home with visitation 1 hour prior to services. Visitation also Thursday from 3 to 8 pm. Officiating is Pastor Jerry Flueckiger.
Burial in the MRE Cemetery with graveside military rites by the Berne Post #468.
