Rev. Robert L. Hegnauer, 96, Berne, passed away May 11 at Swiss Village, Berne, In. He was the son of Leonard S. Hegnauer and Anna(Yoss) Hegnauer born on June 19, 1915 in Rockville, Mo. He married Martha(Sigrist) Hegnauer on August 3, 1938 in Carrothers, Ohio.
Robert graduated from Mission House College, Plymouth, Wisconsin, 1935 and from Lancaster(Pa.) Theological Seminary in 1938.
During his 42 years of active ministry with the United Church of Christ , he served pastorates in Mulberry and Frankfort,Indiana, Robertsville and Paris, Ohio, Pomeroy and East Canton, Ohio, and Berne,Indiana; served as U.S. Army Chaplain, WWII and Korean Conflict; and was Resident Administrator-Chaplain at Chapel Hill Home, a retirement community of the United Church of Christ at Canal Fulton, Ohio.
After his retirement in 1980, he served as interim pastor to many U.C.C. churches in the Eastern Ohio Association, served as annuitant visitor to retired pastors and wives for the U.C.C. Pension Boards. He also worked as a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity in Immokalee, Floida, and Canton, Ohio.
Survivors include 2 sons, David Hegnauer, Hopkinton, New Hampshire, Richard Hegnauer, Willsboro, N.J., and daughter, Martha Ann "Marty" Pizzini, Michigan City, In. A sister, Delores Voltz, Sarasota, Fla. and 2 grandchildren.
Preceding in death are his parents, sisters Lotta Nelson and Naomi Martin and a grandson Christopher David Hegnauer.
Memorial services are Monday, May 14 at 1 pm at Swiss Village Chapel with visitation Monday 9 to 11 AM. Officiating are Pastors Tim Price and Anita Rediger.
Burial in North Canton, Ohio.
Preferred memorials are to Cross United Church of Christ &/or Swiss Village Samaritan Fund.
