Darrell L. Gerig, 82, Berne, passed away Tuesday January 24, 2012 at Swiss Village. He was born to Ralph A. and Sylvia Marie (Niswander) Gerig on September 9, 1929. He married Marilyn (Amstutz) on September 16, 1950, who survives.
Survivors also include two sons, Darrell(Lynn) Gerig, Ft. Wayne, In., Duane (Janet) Gerig, Knoxville, Tenn., a daughter, Dawn (Douglas) Kelsey, Lafayette, In. Sisters, Kathleen Henkel, Berne and Joyce (Edward) Widmark, Lima, Ohio. 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Darrell was a band and choir director at Monmouth School, 6 years, and Adams Central School, 6 years. Darrell was also a middle school guidance counselor at Adams Central for 24 years. He was Minister of Music at Zoller Tabernacle in Detroit for 3 years, Decatur Missionary Church for 15 years, First Missionary Church for 15 years in Berne, and West Missionary Church in Berne for 15 years where he was a member.
Darrell was a member of the Edelweiss Singers, a founding board member of the South Adams Senior Center, and the South Adams Arts Council.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 28, at 10:30 am at the West Missionary Church, Berne, Ind. Pastor Keith Rupp officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, 6 to 8 pm and Friday 2 to 8 pm at the Swiss Village Chapel and 1 hour prior to funeral services at the church.
Burial in the MRE Cemetery, Berne.
Preferred memorials are to the West Missionary Church Music Department and/or the South Adams Senior Center.
