Richard H. (Dick) Allspaw, 78, Monroe, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2011 at his home. He was born on June 28, 1933 to Robert and Harriet (Humphries) Allspaw in Berne. He married Sharon (Walker) on June 8, 1969.
He graduated from Berne-French High School, Taylor University and earned a masters degree from Ball State. Dick served in the U.S. Army from 1957-58. His teaching career began at Geneva High School in 1957-58 and continued at Adams Central High School from 1958-95 where he taught physics and chemistry. He served as a timekeeper at Adams Central for various sports for over 40 years. As a lifelong active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, he served on many boards and committees, acting as church treasurer for the past 28 years. Dick was a charter member of he Edelweiss Men's Chorus and loved every minute of his 17 years with them. He was also on the Board of the South Adams Senior Center.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon, daughter, Leanna (John) Ginocchio, Marshall, MN: son, Gregory (Elizabeth) Allspaw, Brownsburg, IN: sister, Ruth Ann (Ted) Hopkins, Corydon, IA: brother, David (Fran) Allspaw, Sidney, OH: and 3 grandchildren: Kayli & Jacob Ginocchio and Ethan Allspaw.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October, 26 at 10:30 AM at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1217 W. Clark street, Berne, Indiana with visitation 1 hour prior to services. Officiating are Rev. Barry Humble and Rev. Anita Rediger.
Visitation also Tuesday, October 25 from 2-8 PM at the Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home, 365 M.R.E. Cemetery.
Preferred memorials to: Trinity United Methodist Church, Family Life Care, Edelweiss Men's Chorus, or South Adams Senior Center
