Dennis A. Lehman, 93, Berne, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Swiss Village. He was born on March 16, 1918 to William and Caroline (Flueckiger) Lehman. After growing up in Berne, he served 41/2 years with the Civilian Public Service and another 2 years in Paraguay with the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC). He returned home and married Romaine (Stucky) on April 11, 1948. Together, they raised six children on their dairy farm east of Berne. They moved to Swiss Village in 2006.

Dennis was a gentle, peace-loving, family-oriented man. In his spare time, he was a woodworker and biblical scholar. Dennis was a life-long member of the Firt Mennonite Church, where he taught adult Sunday School for over forty yers and held numerus offices.

He is survived by his wife, Romaine, sisters, Viola Shelly, Newton Kansas, Louise Stamm, Archbold, Ohio and a brother, Weldon Lehman, Berne. Sons Jim (Bertie) Lehman, Berne and Lee (Barb) Lehman, Centerville, Ohio, daughters, Denise (Barry) Moore, Geneva, and Gretta (Ted) Beitler, Berne, 13 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandsons.

Preceded in death are his parents, 2 teenage sons, Glen and Ira Lehman, 2 brothers, Willis and Carl Lehman, and a sister MaryAnn Lehman.

Funeral services are 10:30 am, Friday, September 23 at the First Mennonite Church, Berne with visitation 1 hour prior to services. Officiating is Pastor Jerry Fluekiger.

Visitation is also Thursday at Yager-Kirchhhofer Funeral Home from 3 to 8 PM. Burial at the MRE Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to the MCC Relief Fund and /or Swiss Village Samaritan Fund
