Alice R. Journay, 90, a resident of Berne, Indiana went to be with her Lord at 9:15 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2011.

Alice was born on January 5, 1921 in Adams County, Indiana the daughter of James T. and Dessie (Ludy) Bailey, both deceased. She married Harold Journay on November 23, 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1991.

Alice was a member of the Bethel Brethren Church in Berne where she was active in many church activities including teaching Sunday School and being a member of the church choir. She was employed by Dunbar Furniture in Berne and later retired from Berne Furniture Company where she was the supervisor in the sewing department for twenty-five years. Alice enjoyed traveling, reading, puzzles, gardening, and cross stitching.

Alice is survived by a daughter, Brenda (James) Garber of Berne; a daughter, Angelia Journay of Berne; a sister, Chloe (Fred) Davidson of Geneva; a sister, Martha (LaVerne) Miller of Monroe; and a sister-in-law, Bette Bailey of Berne. Other survivors include six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Alice was preceded in death by brothers, Guy Bailey, Blaine Bailey, and Robert Bailey; and a sister, Nora Eberly.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2011 at the Bethel Brethren Church in Berne with the Pastor Joe Nass officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery of rural Berne.

Family and friends will be received from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011 at the Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home in Berne and one hour prior to the service at the Bethel Brethren Church on Friday.

Preferred memorials are to the Bethel Brethren Church Missions or Family Hospice of Northeast Indiana.
