Rachel R. Graber, 91, a resident of Berne, Indiana passed away at 3:20 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2011 at the Swiss Village Retirement Community in Berne.
Rachel was born on November 2, 1919 in Adams County, Indiana the daughter of Jacob J. and Lena (Habegger) Schwartz, both deceased. She married Henry P. Graber on February 25, 1955 and he preceded her in death in 1975.
Rachel was an active member of the Berne Evangelical Church. She was a former employee of the C.T.S. Corporation in Berne retiring in 1985 with twenty-one years of service. She was also a volunteer at Et Cetera Ecke in Berne. Rachel enjoyed reading, music, embroidering and quilting.
Rachel is survived by a son, Don (Nancy) Graber of Geneva, Indiana; a daughter, Eileen (Bill) Daugherty of Pennville, Indiana; and a brother, Millard (Betty) Schwartz of Berne. Other survivors include twelve grandchildren, forty-two great-grandchildren, and twelve great-great-grandchildren.
Rachel was preceded in death by daughters, Evelyn Rich and Delores Moser; a brother, L. Reuben Schwartz; and sisters, Hulda Steiner, Mary Butcher, Rosina Steury, and Naomi Mazelin.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2011 at the Berne Evangelical Church with the Pastors Michael Sprunger and Kent Fahl officiating. Interment will be in the Mazelin Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2011 at the Swiss Village Chapel and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Friday.
Preferred memorials are to Family Hospice of Northeast Indiana or the Berne Evangelical Church.
