LeOrace “Lee” Dale Neuenschwander, 82, a resident of Geneva, Indiana went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 26, 2011 at the Swiss Village Retirement Community in Berne, Indiana.

Lee was born on February 6, 1929 in Adams County, Indiana the youngest son of Joel M. and Cora (Winteregg) Neuenschwander, both deceased.

Lee served his country during the Korean War in the Navy aboard the U.S.S. Harriman. It was while he was stationed in Boston, Massachusetts that he met his future bride, Elizabeth (Betty) Hyslop. The couple met on a hayride at the Tremont Temple Church. They married on May 1, 1953 in Boston and moved to Berne to raise their family.

Lee was a faithful and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He valued his family and cherished the closeness they shared. He was a long time member of the First Missionary Church in Berne where he served as an usher for many years. He retired from Berne Furniture in 1994 and during his retirement years, he enjoyed being a courier for the First Bank of Berne.

Lee is survived by his wife, Betty Neuenschwander; a son, Richard “Rick” (Sharon) Neuenschwander of Berne; a daughter, Kathie (Ron) Patterson of Berne; a daughter, Carole (Jeff) Billington of Bryant; a daughter, Lori (Arne) Liechty of Berne; a brother, Delmar (Dessie) Neuenschwander of Berne; a sister, Vergene Yake of Monroe; a sister, Floine (George) Dynes of Geneva; a sister, Willodyne (Harry) Luginbill of Berne; and a sister, Marjorie (Bill) Simon of Berne. Other survivors include eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Lee was preceded in death by a brother Sherman Neuenschwander and two sisters, Romona Schwartz and Ellowyne Schindler.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at the First Missionary Church in Berne with the Pastors Kris McPherson and Nate Patterson officiating. Interment will be in the M.R.E. Cemetery of rural Berne. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Berne American Legion Post # 468.

Family and friends will be received from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at the Swiss Village Chapel and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Wednesday.

Preferred memorials are to Feed the Children or Family Hospice of Northeast Indiana.
