Samuel M. “Sam” Wickey, 73, a resident of Berne, Indiana passed away at 5:15 a.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at his residence.

Sam was born on March 2, 1937 in Adams County, Indiana the son of Dan S. and Mary C. (Schwartz) Wickey, both deceased. He married Amanda Schwartz on August 24, 1958 and she survives.

Sam was a member of the Open Book Ministries of Geneva, Indiana. He was a retired truck driver for E.P. Graphics. Sam enjoyed truck driving, seeing the country, and nature. He also had a collection of classic cars.

Sam is survived by his wife, Amanda Wickey of Berne; a son, Sam Wickey of Denver, Colorado; a son, Dan (Tammy) Wickey of Hutchinson, Kansas; a son, Henry (Kara) Wickey of Linn Grove, Indiana; a son, Paul (Rochele) Wickey of Linn Grove; a daughter, Ruth (Tim) Gage of Decatur, Indiana; a daughter, Susan Cummings of Alabama; a daughter, Amanda (Stuart) Bailey of Geneva, Indiana; a daughter, Kate (Kenny) Lairson of Berne; a daughter, Mary Fryback of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and a daughter, Marie Bauman of Decatur. Other survivors include a brother, Chris D. Wickey of Berne; a brother, David Wickey of Berne; a sister, Barb (Levi) Schwartz of Berne; a sister, Leah (Dan H.) Schwartz of Bryant, Indiana; a sister, Amanda (Levi) Bontrager of Elkhart, Indiana; a sister, Emma Devanny of Virginia; twenty-six grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Sam was preceded in death by a brother, Dan D. Wickey; four sisters; a grandson, Zion Gage; and a granddaughter, Amy Meyer White.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the West Missionary Church in Berne with the Pastor Gary Aupperle officiating. Interment will be in the Westlawn Cemetery in Geneva.

Family and friends will be received from 1:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 18, 2011 at the Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home in Berne and one hour prior to the funeral service at the West Missionary Church on Saturday.
