Luella Amstutz

December 19, 1918 - January 17, 2011

Luella Amstutz, 92, a resident of Berne, Indiana passed away at 8:25 a.m. Monday, January 17, 2011 at the Swiss Village Retirement Community in Berne.

Luella was born on December, 19, 1918 in Celina, Ohio the daughter of Ralph and Martha (Cordier) Monroe, both deceased. She married Walter Amztutz on December 14, 1947 and he preceded her in death.

Luella was co-owner of the Berne Hardware Company and retired from the business with forty-eight years of service. She was also a former employee of Karsch Stone Company in Celina, Ohio.

Luella is survived by a son, John M. (Arlene) Amstutz of Geneva, Indiana; a son-in-law, Virgil Gierhart of Bryant, Indiana; a sister, Luetta Hill of Celina; and a sister, Marjorie (Rudy) Brehm of Celina. Other survivors include grandchildren, Jennifer Amstutz and Ryan Amstutz, both of Geneva.

Luella was preceded in death by a daughter, J. Suzanne (Virgil) Gierhart; a grandson, Craig Amstutz; two brothers, Irvin Monroe and Clifford Monroe; and six sisters, Helen Monroe, Opal Robbins, Beulah Fennig, Bernice Monroe, Ruth Powell, and Lela Snider.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at the Swiss Village Chapel with the Chaplain Anita Rediger officiating. Interment will be in the M.R.E. Cemetery of rural Berne.

Family and friends will be received from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at the Swiss Village Chapel and one hour prior to the funeral service on Wednesday.

Preferred memorials are to the Swiss Village Samaritan Fund or the Craig Amstutz Scholarship Fund.
