Sam H. Yager, 92, a resident of Berne, Indiana passed away at 10:05 a.m. Monday, January 10, 2011 at the Swiss Village Retirement Community in Berne.

Sam was born on March 6, 1918 in Adams County, Indiana the son of William and Lucinda (Hocker) Yager, both deceased. He married Frieda Myers on June, 6, 1940 and she survives.

Sam was a member of the Bethel Brethren Church in Berne where he served as a church deacon and church trustee. He was a farmer and former employee of the Adams County Highway Department, the State Highway Department, and Indiana Construction Company. Sam and his wife enjoyed visiting with people wherever they went.

Sam is survived by his wife, Frieda Yager of Berne; a son, Glen (Carol) Yager of Berne; a daughter, Miriam (Max) Reinhard of Berne; and a daughter, Bernice (John) Augsburger of Berne. Other survivors include nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Sam was preceded in death by brothers; Ralph, Loren, Floyd, Kenneth, Charles, and Herman Yager, and sisters; Rachael Sautbine and Mary Elizabeth Yager.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 13, 2011 at the Bethel Brethren Church with the Pastor Joe Nass officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasant Dale Cemetery of rural Peterson, Indiana with graveside services at 2:00 p.m.

Family and friends will be received from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at the Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home in Berne and one hour prior to the service at the Bethel Brethren Church on Thursday.

Preferred memorials are to the Bethel Brethren Church.
